Author: Mahima Gupta
For most of us, moisturization means applying face cream post shower. But is that enough?
The benefits of moisturizing the skin have always been ignored. It is the very basic and most important step to a healthy skin. Below are some tips to help you moisturise your skin in the right and wholesome manner.
KNOW YOUR SKIN TYPE- SELECT THE RIGHT MOISTURIZER
There is a right moisturizer for every skin type – Oily, Dry, Normal or Combination. Most often people with Oily skin run away from moisturizing, especially in humid weather. Trust Us! Oily or Non Oily, you cannot miss your moisturizer. However you can carefully select your moisturizer.
Dry Skin people should ideally pick up a heavy/ thick cream.
Oily Skin people should go for lightweight moisturizers which are thinner and less consistent such as lotions.
Combination skin type people can choose to apply different types of moisturisers on different areas. For example, if the T-Zone is oily – go for a lighter moisturiser on the T-Zone.
Normal Skin people usually know the amount of moisturization needed and settle for a thick/ thin moisturizer accordingly.
MOISTURIZE SKIN WHEN IT IS STILL DAMP
The effect of moisturization stays longer when it is applied on damp skin. So for people suffering from dryness, this rule works like magic!
Masks | Serums | Face Oils also moisturize
Hydrating face masks rich in essential oils, facial serums and facial oils are a great source of hydrating the skin. Sometimes, face cream / lotionsare not enough to provide enough nutrition to the skin! A combination of right hydration products help rejuvenate and brighten skin.
DO NOT FORGET TO MOISTURIZE THE EYE
We often ignore eye-care considering it to be reserved for ageing skin. However the skin around eyes is thinner and needs extra care. It needs to be moisturized more in comparison to the face which helps in preventing wrinkles, fine lines, dark circles and sagging. It is important to gently massage the surrounding eyes skin with an eye cream for improving blood circulation and skin health around the eye area.
SAY BYE-BYE TO STEAMY SHOWERS
Long steamy showers are everyone’s delight but the truth of the matter is that extra hot water and steam rip the skin off its natural moisture. This makes the skin very dry which is not good for overall skin health.
MOISTURIZE THE WHOLE BODY
Moisturization is needed by entire body skin, especially the feet and hands. People with sweaty hands may skip to put oodles of moisturizer on the palm but must not forget the backside of hand and the feet!
MAINTAIN THE RIGHT HUMIDITY AROUND YOU
A certain amount of humidity is good for skin moisture. In extra dry weathers, you can have a humidifier or can simply keep a bowl full of water in your room for maintaining the right humidity. This tip works wonders for people with Dry Skin!
